Applied Learning: Gulayan Klasrum

The Plant In Our Home

Calamansi (Citrofortunella microcarpa /Citrofortunella mitis) is a round and small citrus fruit that is commonly used here in the Philippines for culinary and herbal uses. Calamansi is commonly used in the filipino cuisine as a condiment like in pancit, lugaw, or even in the sawsawan. When comes to the health benefits of the calamansi, it is very rich in vitamin C that is good in our health. One of the benefits of calamansi in our health is it can protect us from common colds and flu. That is why it is traditionally used as a treatment for certain diseases. And this is the reason why I choose this fruit as my plant in my project in the 21st Century Literature.

In the short story, Gulayan Klasrum, we the students are encouraged to apply what we have learned in the story. We are encouraged to be a nature lovers by showing awareness in our environment today. I bought the calamansi plant from the plant store near the railroad in Pedro Gil. My mother and I decided on what plant we like to put in our house. Back in our house, I eagerly put the plant in its new pot with love and care. I watered it later and see the beauty of it. I am hoping that this plant will bear fruits by the end of October.
